We would love you to run a socks and chocs collection on our behalf or to do a sponsored event for us (Find us on Virgin Money Giving)
We accept new or VERY GOOD QUALITY second hand, but please make sure they are clean and in pairs. For Christmas why not boycott cards that get thrown away in January. Buy each other socks instead, writing the greeting on the label and then pinning to a noticeboard. Then the best bit - in January, collect them up and take to a homeless centre for Socks and Chocs. Can it be any more like what Christmas spirit should actually be about.
Individual bars, boxes, family size bars. (Socks and Chocs count "1" as a family size bar or box. 6 individual bars also count as "1" and are not individually counted.
Sleeping Bags – clean, new or second hand, preferably small/compact
Underwear – pants, vests, new only (no second hand please)
Hats – woolly hats, caps, clean, new or second hand
Socks and Chocs is not only about money, we simply want to inspire you to make a donation or run a collection of actual socks and chocs near where you live. In other words “do what you can”. Yes money is useful but if times are hard just one pair of socks will help someone.
Other items of clothing are useful to homeless centres too but we don’t have the capacity to store them. Please arrange delivery direct to the centre and if you are happy for us to count in our “Inspired by” totals then let me know the totals.
VIRGIN MONEY GIVING
We have a Virgin Money Giving page if you would like to donate there: VIRGIN MONEY GIVING.
You can also set up your own Virgin Money Giving Page for any sponsored event you wish to do. All you need to do is go HERE and as you set up your page simply search for Socks and Chocs and up we come.
If, however you do prefer to donate cash, we can use that to buy sleeping bags or other target items. You can text donate. The team do not get paid for what they do and they do not claim expenses. Socks and Chocs has unavoidable outgoings to keep the charity legal (insurance, training costs, accountancy fees etc). Apart from these necessary fees all other money donated is spent on items needed and requested by the homeless centres we work with.
If you want to donate anything by text then you simply text the word SOCK08 £2 to 70070 (obviously substitute the “2” for the amount you wish to donate. Thank you.
The following places can take donations directly or through the post. Please make sure you write Socks and Chocs clearly on the package.
If you click on the “pins” on the map it will highlight addresses we have helped or who would like help with more added weekly. Check to see if there is somewhere near you.
Some of these places will collect and distribute to homeless centres. Others are actually homeless centres and take items direct. Either way Socks & Chocs reach those in need.
It is always worth ringing to check you have stuff they need and want as I don’t want anyone to have a wasted journey.
SOCKS AND CHOCS CAN’T FACILITATE THIS FOR YOU AS CENTRES HAVE THEIR OWN OPENING TIMES AND THEIR OWN NEEDS AND WANTS. SOCKS AND CHOCS SUGGESTS LIMITING YOUR COLLECTONS TO NEW SOCKS, CHOCOLATES, NEW UNDERWEAR, GLOVES, SLEEPING BAGS AND WOOLY HATS.
We don’t have a central collection point or a head office as such so we would encourage you to make donations directly to your local homeless shelter. If you need help identifying a local homeless shelter, contact us. If you find a homeless centre not listed that either you have donated to or that can take donations direct, please let us know. We will add them here.
Thank you for being inspired enough to read our website.
Now please do your bit with our ethos of “Lots of people doing a little is better than a few doing a lot!”
We currently deliver to homeless charities in Birmingham, Coventry, Worcester and Wolverhampton but we would love to see more donations happening across the country. To achieve this we need people where you live running collections and then donating.
As we get more money donated we are now supplying homeless centres nationally. Recently we sent 1000 pairs to Manchester and another 1000 pairs to London.
